Top Things to Do While Traveling in Europe

I’ve been on a travel kick lately, and it is a lot of fun to start thinking about what to do in various trips around the world. My latest exploration online has led me to Europe, and I thought I’d share with you some things I’ve come up with to do in Europe, and hopefully someone with more experience can share with me your insights and let me know what I should really do.

I should add that I haven’t factored in the budget yet (in fact, that’s not even been considered)…these are just fun, exciting places that I’d like to see!

Traveling to Italy and Rome seems like a lot of fun. I enjoy history, and I think I’d love to go see the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, and the various art galleries, fountains, and other historical sites across the city. I’d also love to go see the Vatican as well.

Beyond the sights, it doesn’t hurt that I love Italian food, and I’d enjoy pretty much every meal and snack in the city. I also think it would be fun to take some day trips to the country and see some other sights as well.

Paris has the same appeal to me as Rome, with lots of sights to see – the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and more. There seems like so many interesting sights to see, I could spend days wandering around. Plus, I think the food would be so much fun to eat everyday as well.

A perk about Paris (and Italy to some extent), is that it seems easy to access the rest of Europe from. I’ve read that you can take trains everywhere across mainland Europe, which makes getting around easy and enjoyable. It would be nice to be in Paris because it seems like a hub to get just about anywhere else in Europe.

Finally, I think I’d really enjoy seeing Greece. Although the riots on the television lately have got me a little worried about going in the near-future, I think going to Greece in general could be very enjoyable and exciting. First, I think I’d really enjoy the history and the food. I think there are a lot of fun sights to see across mainland Greece.

But, if I went to Greece, I think I’d spend a lot of time in ferry ports because I’d want to hop to the various Greek isles and lay out on the beaches. I’ve seen so many movies showcasing the islands like Santorini, and it just looks so beautiful and tranquil. I’d love to leave the hustle and bustle of mainland Europe and enjoy some time in the sun on the beach. Plus, it looks so beautiful, with the white walls and blue roofs, I think it would be a very unique experience, but really relaxing at the same time.

What are your thoughts on going on a European vacation? Have you done it before? Any places that I must go see?

Budgeting 101

  1. I have been to Rome once and Paris twice and I would highly recommend both. The food is amazing, the history is even better. I will definitely be visiting Rome again.

I haven’t been to any of those places! Brian and I went to Germany a year and a half or so ago and that was one of the best times I’ve ever had. I am hoping to go to France in 2013. 😀

We’re just back from a week in Amsterdam & you should definitely add that to your list! It’s a wonderful city, very vibrant & interesting. And only a 2 hour train ride from Paris, which was also wonderful, though we only had a couple of days there. The trains & trams are fantastic – fast & clean, making it easy to get around. Would have liked to visit London on this trip, but it was just too far (about 6 hours each way) for the time we had free. My dream trip is Italy & Greece, though I’m also wary of Greece at the moment…

  4. I’ve only been to Italy, and it was all that and a bag of chips. I’d love to see more of Europe

  5. I really enjoyed Ireland. It’s a very cool country and everything (pricewise) is very reasonable. Just be prepared for two things: First, if you head to Northern Ireland, they deal with Pounds as opposed to Euros like the rest of Ireland. Second, if you rent a car, you have to buy the insurance. It’s not an option and your credit card does not cover you insurance-wise there. The insurance basically doubles the price of the rental.

  6. I really need to visit Paris, my friends say it’s amazing and it’s not that far for me living in the UK. Don’t forget London, some great sights in London but it’s not cheap!

  7. Terry says:

    Thanks for those traveling tips.

When I finally make it to Europe, I most look forward to seeing the historical places in Rome.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  8. Janine says:

I just want to go to Europe and see it all…. these looks like amazing things to do! I hope you get to go very soon!

  9. Andy Hough says:

I’d love to go to Europe too. It is something I’ve wanted to do for years but my only international trips have been to Mexico and Central America. I’ll get there someday.

  10. I’d love to go to Germany because my brother went there in 2007 and loved it. Awesome beers and food – I’d kill to go to Octoberfest.
