It is also designed to protect users’ network from delays and connection issues when using Outlook.

How do I clear the cache on my computer?

With dedicated caching of user mailboxes on computers, Outlook no longer depends on a permanent network connection to collect information about users. It also reduces network load. Once messages are received over the network, subsequent access to those messages does not result in additional network traffic.

When a trusted user is offline and using Outlook, the program works with this localized copy and with the offline address book (OAB). Email messages, cosdata by a certain user is offline, always sent when that user is online in the lower back. If the user is , the offline address book cache and mailbox may be refreshed periodically by the Exchange server in the background.

Cached Exchange Mode is especially useful for:

<str>

Laptop users who often turn the connection on and off.

Users who often work offline or may be offline.

Users accessing any Exchange server with high latency (greater than 500ms).

While Cached Exchange Mode is clearly the recommended default feature, there are some known issues with Item Mode, including sync delays with frequent items and diary updates. see Known Issues with Cached Exchange Mode.

Online Mode

The second type of general Exchange mode is online mode. Online mode works with information coming directly from the server; As the name suggests, a connection is required. MailThe first box is just data that is also cached in RAM and never written to disk. You can easily enable online mode by disabling Cached Exchange Mode.

When to use online mode

For the online interface, this mode is recommended for the following scenarios:

<str>

Kiosk scenarios where many users on particular computer access different Outlook accounts, and this delay in downloading email to the local cache is unacceptable.

Computers with large mailboxes that don’t have enough disk space for a local copy of the mailbox.

Large mailboxes (greater than 25 GB). For large mailboxes, Cached Exchange Mode performance can be a problem.

Set Modes

By default, when a user adds an Exchange account to Outlook, Cached Exchange Mode is used. To disable Cached Exchange Mode and switch to online mode, the user can disable it during account setup and then change the account Exchange entry in the Outlook account settings window.

How to enable Cached Exchange Mode in Office or 365 Office 2019:

In Outlook, navigate to and then .

Select your account and click .

Check the box, move the slider to download emails once (swipe right to download all emails for free), then go back.

Click and close the account settings window.

Restart Outlook.

For more information, see Enable Cached Exchange Mode.

If you’re an IT professional and plan to use Office, you can also configure your Outlook Exchange connection mode settings to use the Office Customization Tool (OCT) group or the Office Customization Tool (OCT) group.
